her spiritual alchemy

for sunday postcard art challenge: al·che·my -- also known as the medieval forerunner of chemistry, based on the supposed transformation of matter.

...while physical alchemy is concerned with altering and transforming the properties within matter, spiritual alchemy is concerned with freeing your spiritual self which is trapped within you by the unrefined parts of yourself (e.g. your fears, personal beliefs, self-loathing, etc.)....

frida tribute

at sunday postcard art this week the theme is frida kahlo. frida was an amazing artist, a revolutionary, and a human living with chronic terrible pain because of illnesses and accidents in her youth. her art, photos, and stories of her life are a source of constant admiration and mystery for many. in light of all this, making a piece in her honor was challenging. but here it is.

in much of her art she explored anatomy and expressed the physical pain she was going through. i tried to pick up on some of that here. and also images of beauty, as she was so beautiful in so many ways.
