at the cheeky challenge this week we were invited to create a ballgown design. using images from dezinaworld i created my virtual design shop featuring the 2 ballgown "designs."
the images are mostly from the "eclectic," "embellishments" and "steampunk glory" kits.
enjoy; love to all.
this blog is to chart my creative evolution with stamping, paper-crafting, mixed media and some other stuff i haven't figured out yet... on the theory that challenging myself to try new things and post them to the "world" will be good for me. and might also be good for others. my blog title is inspired by julia cameron's "the artist's way" and her admonition to fill the well.

quotes and sayings
we're challenged to use quotes or sayings in our tags at tag tuesday this week. here's mine:
the sentiment is a stamp from silver crow creations. the moon is from the harvest moon collage sheet by lunagirl and the dancing girl is from the bring on the dancing girls collage sheet also by lunagirl. she is definitely flexible! the ribbon, prima flower, die cut border and background papers are from my stash.
i'm also linking to the three muses "quote" challenge and to the
inspiration destination "anything goes" challenge.
enjoy! love to all.

favourite era?
at the cheeky challenge this week we are invited to share a creation on the topic of "favorite era." i was challenged to think of what my favorite era might be. i went way back in time for this one:
i have a favorite children's book called "dinotopia" about a time and place where people and dinosaurs lived in relative harmony. the artwork and illustrations in that book are beyond beautiful and i highly recommend the book both for the intriguing story but also for the art. anyway that story inspired this digital piece.
background and people from dezinaworld; butterfly by itKuPiLLi; dinosaurs are found images.
although there is a hint of danger in the corner, i feel this is a peaceful scene -- but what do you see when you look at it?
the dinosaurs in the dinotopia book had a teaching and a philosophy: "breathe deep; seek peace." i really like that.
love to all.

the twinchie base is from inchie arts and the word sticker is from tim holtz.

here there be pirates.... more gecko galz inspiration
i thought i'd add a last bit of inspiration for the gecko galz challenge blog customer challenge this month -- "man o man." you have another week to play along.
although we tend to romanticize pirates (i love the "pirates of the carribean" movies as much as anyone) the truth is pirates were dangerous people who did some pretty bad things. thus the theme of this piece.
supplies: pre-cut ATC base; gecko galz "steampunk paper pack;" gecko galz "pirates" collage sheet; distress inks; word typed by me.
instructions: i covered the ATC base with paper from the "steampunk paper pack" and distressed the edges. there are 2 images from the pirates collage sheet -- the bit with the ship and map, and the pirate himself. i added those to the base. i typed and printed the word danger as a final warning!
how to play along with the customer challenge: link up a creation on our theme at the challenge blog, being sure to use at least one item by gecko galz. you can obtain freebies from gecko galz at the pinterest site, or if you haven't done it already, go to the log and sign up for the email newsletter and you'll get a free collage sheet each month. the gecko galz etsy shop also has great deals at great prices -- check out the sale section!

whatever the weather
whatever the weather, whatever your season -- summer or winter -- rain is always a possibility! but you can't let that stop you; regardless of the rain let your light shine! thus my tag:
our theme for tag tuesday is "whatever the weather" which inspired me to use this wonderful rubber stamp from catherine moore's character constructions, stamped on a background of designer paper from itKuPiLLi, with clouds and raindrops added with a silver sharpie and a black border and silver ribbon from my stash.
enjoy, whatever the weather!
love to all.

kite, grunge, digital art play
linking this little bit of weirdness to both the cheeky challenge "grunge" and the three muses challenge "kite." because i am liberally interpreting kite to include the balloons lifting this ship up, up and away...

there is always reason to hope
on this third week of june and the third week of the fathers and brothers challenge at lunagirl moonbeams i'm sharing another twinchie from the vintage fathers collage sheet by lunagirl.
these vintage photos are so full of story. in the eyes of this father i see struggle and stoicism and then there is his little girl clinging to him with such trust. i felt there was hope within them and so i chose the background sun from the lunagirl "wind roses compasses" collage sheet and added the hopeful word from a tim holtz sticker set. the 2x2 base is from inchie arts.

moonstruck
i'm loving playing along with the three muses challenges lately and this week's theme is "moon struck" which means i get to work with a favorite theme, the moon!
these are all images from itKuPiLLi digital products. i feel like it needs a bit something more but i needed to stop so this is what i have for now. it is very intriguing playing with creating art digitally. images from itKuPiLLi are very very dreamy!
enjoy; love to all.

i spy tags and masculine moo
"i spy with my little eye" is a game that is the theme for tag tuesday this week. i focused on sight or vision more so than on the game. i made two tags, all images and papers by gecko galz:
today i am also sharing something for the moo mania and more challenge blog -- the theme there is "masculine." this is an actual "moo" at 1.1 x 2.8 inches.
all images and papers by gecko galz.
enjoy; love to all.

june gecko galz inspiration -- and a freebie!
today is my feature day on the gecko galz blog so i am sharing another manly ATC in celebration of our customer challenge this month, "man o man!"
supplies: pre-cut ATC base; gecko galz "steampunk paper pack;" gecko galz "who's the man" collage sheet; gecko galz "pirates" collage sheet; moonlight journey "vintage wings" (sadly the moonlight journey online shop has closed); tim holtz word stickers; distress inks; die cut border
instructions: i covered the ATC base with papers from the "steampunk paper pack" and distressed the edges. i cut out a compass from the pirates sheet and adhered it to the base. i fussy cut the man and the wings and glued them together, then glued them to the base. the final step was adding some washi tape at the top edge, and then cutting out and adding the border and the words.
how to play along: link up a creation on our theme at the challenge blog, being sure to use at least one item by gecko galz. you can obtain freebies from gecko galz at the pinterest site, or if you haven't done it already, go to the log and sign up for the email newsletter and you'll get a free collage sheet each month. the gecko galz etsy shop also has great deals at great prices -- check out the sale section!
as promised, your freebie -- not manly at all but hopefully something fun for you to play with.
and here is what i did with it:
i'm linking to the crafty hazelnut patterned paper challenge as well!
enjoy; love to all.

which jewel should i choose?
the prompt at cheeky challenge this week is "shapes." i'd been wanting to use the many jewels from the dezinaworld "embellishments" collection and so i interpreted shapes to include the shapes of jewels...
our glamorous friend here has laid out all of her jewels and now must decide which to choose -- not to mention how to use such giant jewels! alright, a little whimsy for you! images by dezinaworld, background created by me.
love to all.

a man of industry and invention
at the lunagirl moonbeams blog last month we celebrated mothers and sisters -- so this month it is fathers and brothers. link up your creation on our all about men theme for a chance to win shopping credit at the lunagirl store.
since i did twinchies for the mothers and sisters at lunagirl last month i'm back to the 2x2 inch creations for the men as well. the man is from the lunagirl african american CD. he looked to me like he could be an inventor so i was inspired to use background paper from the journeys #1 collage sheet also by lunagirl. my twinchie base is a precision cut 2x2 square from inchie arts. the word sticker is from tim holtz.
