new beginnings and doodles

here are two happy new year tags --
for tag tuesday "new beginnings"
and lost coast portal to creativity "oodles of doodles"

in this new year i will be STRONG...

face stamp is from lost coast stamps "up close and personal" stamp set (stamped on designer paper and cut out); the stamped word strong is from technique junkies.  background paper by prima song bird collection and the doodled body is by me with a pro marker pen.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

AND in the new year i will still be a dreamer, wishing and hoping and planning for beautiful visions to come true...

face stamp is from lost coast stamps "up close and personal" stamp set (stamped on designer paper and cut out); stamped stars are from catherine moore character constructions; background paper is from the prima song bird paper pack; the words are from the "charming words" collage sheet by gecko galz; and the doodled body is by me with a pro marker pen.

this was a little fun and different thing for me to do which i hope you enjoy.

love to all.

the circus is coming to town

for the new two week challenge theme at tag tuesday: book print

i covered my tag base with a real page from a dictionary then spritzed it with spray inks.  the stamps are from character constructions, one of my favorite stamp companies.

enjoy; love to all.

whatever the weather

whatever the weather, whatever your season -- summer or winter -- rain is always a possibility!  but you can't let that stop you; regardless of the rain let your light shine!  thus my tag:

our theme for tag tuesday is "whatever the weather" which inspired me to use this wonderful rubber stamp from catherine moore's character constructions, stamped on a background of designer paper from itKuPiLLi, with clouds and raindrops added with a silver sharpie and a black border and silver ribbon from my stash.

enjoy, whatever the weather!
love to all.

being for the benefit of mr kite... (long post, song at the end!)

there is a song from the beatles sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band album called "being for the benefit of mr. kite."  the song has a circus/carnival theme in its lyrics and sound.  i love this song.  it turns out from my research that the song was based on an actual circus poster john lennon had in his collection and mr. kite was a real performer.

now why am i telling you this?  i love the unruly paper arts blogozine and facebook group. one of the recent swaps that was set up by our community muse Danie was a fiction/fairytales/fantasy postcard swap.  i love all things circus and decided to create a postcard with a circus theme.  i also really wanted to dig into some wonderful circus stamps from catherine moore's character constructions which i'd bought long ago but not yet used. i do love her stamps!  so here is what i made.

this postcard probably looks simple but there is a lot behind it.  there are multiple layers.  i used a technique i learned from sharon rogers in a post she provided at the unruly paper arts blog.  i started by covering the postcard base in designer paper and then arranging a wide variety of bits and bobs of other kinds of papers and thingies around the postcard then appling a light coating of watered down gesso.  from there i used a variety of spray paints and stencils to create additional dimension to the background.  there is a strip of polka dot washi tape at the bottom to make my little circus "road.'

the circus images are stamped onto vellum which i then adhered to the prepared postcard base.  i nearly messed the whole thing up because i did not stamp with the proper ink and after 24plus hours the vellum still wasn't dry.  i asked for help on the UPA facebook group and got the simple but brilliant answer -- use clear embossing powder and a heat gun to dry the stamped images.  it worked like a charm and gave the final piece some nice punch (which doesn't show so well in the scan unfortunately).
well, that is the very long story of this piece.  and, oh, back to the song -- in making this creation the song popped into my head and that's why i'm sharing it here!

danger!

you may think it is safe to sit and read your book, young lady, but look sharp!  danger lurks! beware every corner and cranny; watch out for the things that creak and grind.  put your book down and call your nanny before you lose your mind!

it is a thrilling theme at tag tuesday this week -- danger!  so many directions one could go with this... but i'm in spooky mode so i couldn't resist using these gecko galz images to make this tag, along with a favorite "little moon" stamp by character constructions which I stamped on to designer paper by gecko galz.  the painted background was something i picked up in a giveaway some time ago and the rich autumny colors on the card stock were perfect for this creation so i cut it into a tag shape.

i'll be looking around extra carefully next time i sit down to read!  you be careful out there too!

a sassy showgirl in the theatre of dreams

for week two of the sassy showgirls challenge at lunagirl moonbeams i combined a wonderful showgirl from the lunagirl collage sheet of the same name with some stamps from the character constructions theatre of dreams stamp catalog.

the moon is from a different collage sheet although interestingly the character constructions set has a very similar moon stamp. i've added some goodies that felt right to me here -- background paper, a fan sticker, and other flourishes (and not surprisingly a butterfly...).

one more week to join our fun and for a chance at winning a shopping trip to the lunagirl store. what? you say you don't have any showgirl images to work with?  well our friend karen at lunagirl has fixed that!  visit her website for some showgirl freebies!

insect tag

another week, another tag. we're focusing on insects this week at tag tuesday.
this week's prompt gave me the chance to try out some new stamps i recently acquired from the wonderful company catherine moore character constructions.

catherine's stamps are SOOO delightful and sweet.  who could be afraid of one of these bees?  the sun stamp is from uptown rubber.  my background is a lovely piece that i got from a blog giveaway and which i cut to fit the tag -- it is layered with rich inky color.

love to all.

angel wings

like so many artists and crafters i love working with angels and with wings so the new two week challenge at cheerful stamp pad definitely makes me happy -- the theme is "angel wings."  our challenge sponsor is the lovely digital stamp company michelle perkett.  a randomly selected winner will get some goodies from the company.

here is my first DT piece for the challenge:

my cardstock was spritzed with watercolor inks.  i tried the "washi weave" tutorial from technique junkies to make for a different kind of background.  my stamp is a favorite one from character constructions.  i printed a relevant quote from my computer then tore it and distressed the edges.  a few other embellies and voila! angel wings.

i hope you'll join us.  i'm also linking up to the "sentiments" challenge at that craft place challenge blog.

just visiting gramps...

although i'm pretty sure gramps has passed on.  and in fact grandson is looking a little zombie-ish...
this is my first time playing along at the frilly and funkie challenge blog and i'm entering the "what's your poison" challenge, requiring a hallow e'en creation using green and black but no orange.

i stamped the cat (100 proof press), grandson (rogue redhead designs) and gramps/skeleton (inkadinkado) on green paper and cut them out.  the moon (character constructions) is stamped on white.  the swirly background paper is from alpha stamps.  my best crafting investment this season came from a little trolling around ebay where i came across some fab hallow e'en die cuts (here i've used the fence and ghost) which i've been using like crazy on all my hallow e'en creations.  the gravestone is a sticker from my stash, company unknown.  but a clever grave marker, yes?

enjoy; love to all.

shoes at tag tuesday

i'm a contributor at tag tuesday  and the theme this week is "shoes."  i wanted to stamp something so i pulled out some stamps from character constructions.  this little scene came to me during a half sleeping state when i was pondering the theme while dozing.  i know it is a little odd and rather simple but i decided to honor the dream state and share this little parade.  the swirly stamp is from past time stamps, the rest are character constructions, enhanced with promarkers.  i made the tag base out of some pretty green card stock.

it is time for the queen's tea...

hello precious friends.  there is still just under a week left to participate in the cheerful stamp pad's latest challenge: time for the queen's tea.  include "time," "tea" and "queen" (at least two of these) in your creation.

my beautiful queen here is an image from french kissed postcards. the clock stamp is from inkadinkado and the little teacup stamp is from catherine moore's character constructions.  the rest is stash.

the challenge sponsor is pollycraft digis.  a randomly selected winner will get some free digis.  now here's a tip -- so far there are only FOUR entries in the challenge.  challenge closes sunday.  if you enter soon there's a great chance of getting free stuff!  so i hope you'll think of joining in.

happy may day and happy spring.  love to all.

cheerful stamp pad # 41- "time for the queen's tea"

time for a new two-week challenge at the cheerful stamp pad this time it is "time for the queen's tea."
think of time, tea and queen and use two of three of those themes in your creation.

i've used one of my favorite stamps from catherine moore's character constructions. she has LOTS of stamps with teacups and teapots.  this teapot girl is all ready for her big moment with the queen.

if you are alert i suppose you'll notice that i've only got one of the three themes above but please do as i say and not as a did...  next week i'll have all three!

the challenge sponsor is pollycraft digis and the prize for the randomly selected winner will be 3 digis of winner's choice.

i hope you'll find time to join in.
love to all.

another rainy and windy day!

it is week two for the rainy, windy day challenge at the cheerful stamppad.  our challenge sponsor is saturated canary digis and the prize shall be one of krista's charming digis. i made something with a saturated canary digi last week but this week i dug into the stamp drawer and used a wonderful stamp from catherine moore character constructions.
this gentleman is so comical to me as he rides along in his tiny teacup car with his unreasonably tiny umbrella!  the background designer paper will look familiar as i used it last week...  it is from twisted papers.  it just strikes me as a great backdrop for rainy spring weather.  the falling raindrops on this card are from a sticker set that is actually called raindrops!

enjoy and i hope you'll find time to join the challenge.
love to all.
