frida tribute

at sunday postcard art this week the theme is frida kahlo. frida was an amazing artist, a revolutionary, and a human living with chronic terrible pain because of illnesses and accidents in her youth. her art, photos, and stories of her life are a source of constant admiration and mystery for many. in light of all this, making a piece in her honor was challenging. but here it is.

in much of her art she explored anatomy and expressed the physical pain she was going through. i tried to pick up on some of that here. and also images of beauty, as she was so beautiful in so many ways.

frida dreams and good news

i participated in the rubber moon mail club ATC swap in august.  here are the ATCS i sent:

all stamps are from rubber moon with accents done in colored pencil, paper flowers and a few enamel dots.  the dream die cut came from the latest rubber moon mail club package.

frida faces

the new two week challenge at tag tuesday is "faces."  i took the opportunity to use my new frida face stamp which was given to me over the holidays -- but in an unusual way...

the background paper is from sabor papel (purchased from altered pages).  the moon face stamp is from inkadinkado, frida is from 100 proof press and the crow body and heart are from silver crow creations. 

here the background paper is from gecko galz although the trim at the bottom is also sabor papel.  frida and the hawk body are both from 100 proof press.

some years ago i was in an ATC swap where the theme was "bird people."  we could either do bird bodies with people heads or people bodies with bird heads.  i thought this would be a fun way to use my frida face stamp especially since frida is such a mysterious figure who often worked with nature and animals in her own art.
