yes, i was listening to Carly Simon this weekend ("you're so vain")....

===========================

and now, updates for 4 days worth of the "index card a day" challenge sponsored by daisy yellow arti was traveling for a few days so didn't get my index cards posted but i made them!
33: periwinkle
34: board game
35: lantern
36: ocean (i was back home for this one)

i rubber stamp and collage because i am insecure about my drawing "skills." but i couldn't really bring all kinds of collaging or stamping supplies on a short trip so i had to draw. it is pretty elementary but here are the three i made while away (i brought index cards with me which i'd already made backgrounds for with watercolor inks and crackle paint):

and i finished yesterdays' "ocean" card today -- still have to get on today's card which i'll likely share tomorrow.

love to all.

dancing and drawing

so if you visit here much you know i love to dance and i have tried many different kinds of dancing over the years.  i am currently 2 weeks into a lovely and unusual 8 week class called "dancing the bones."  the focus is on exploring dance through anatomy -- thinking about our skeletons, organs, musculature, etc.  and the movements are derived from that exploration.  very experimental and probably sounds a little weird but i confess i love it.  we also take drawing breaks during the 2 hour weekly class.  so today i am sharing a drawing i made of my own skeleton (with apologies for less than ideal photo quality -- it was a pencil drawing):

i know, funny huh?  when i was young i used to hate to think about my skeleton because it freaked me out but now i kind of like thinking about the amazing bones that keep me upright!

and this is a drawing from the second class of how i felt after we'd been dancing for quite awhile, considering the relationship of our skin to the physical space:

i never said i could draw...

okay, so this was a different sort of post but i thought i'd share.  i'm having a great time with it.

love to all.

play time with tape

one of my favorite art teachers is carla sonheim.  i found her when looking for independent art teachers in my area. interestingly enough the class i took from her, a drawing class called "the art of silliness," was an online class and i've never actually met her even though we do live in the same city!  she is all about freeing yourself up, being silly, being happy, loving your artist within.   i continue to follow her blog and found this fun "animal in tape" tutorial.

you start by randomly placing tape and then you examine your random placement for an animal hiding in there -- her blog post gives all the details.  on this first piece i don't think i quite followed her directions but i still had fun.  anyway i gave it a second go:

so yeah, silly indeed, but very enjoyable.  her post offered a wonderful invitation for playtime and today was a good day to play.  check out her blog post and her blog (there is also a giveaway...) and notice her book on my sidebar on the right.

happy week folks.  love to all.
