a gorgeous gift from scotland!

lucky lucky blessed me!  the stunningly gifted lynne of adorn sent me a most wondrous and beautiful gift.  i had a powerful response to a piece she posted recently and she so kindly sent it to me.   such a gorgeous steampunk inspired mixed media piece.
i'm posting it here but you really ought to see how she posted it because not only does she display her artwork so beautifully you can also learn more about the piece HERE.

not only do trains evoke a sense of romance for me, they are also a sense of comfort strange though it may sound.  for some reason the sound of trains and their whistles really speaks to me.  indeed i live near a train station and when i hear the trains at night it makes me feel content.  so her gift has more meaning than she even knows.  and wow, if you saw this card in person you'd just gasp.

thank you lynne you are the BEST.
love to all.

ribbons and lace. in memory.

this fabulous stamp is called "the look" and it is from the stampsmith.  yep, a stamp not a photo.  if you are not familiar with the stampsmith products check it out.  it takes some doing to perfect the technique with these amazing stamps (and i have not gotten there yet) but it is worth the effort.  there is a challenge at the stampsmith blog.  hosted by the brilliant Lynne from adorn, the task is to use ribbons and lace.  i'm also linking this up to pearls and lace thursday.

i dedicate this piece to my grandmother who passed away this Thanksgiving weekend at age 91.  i've written about her before.  she was the light of my life from my earliest days.  her endless creativity as a seamstress, milliner, designer, baker and singer was the seed of so much of what i am.  i have many stories i could share but for now it was really important for me to finish this piece and post it in her honor.  i will miss her more than i can even express.  but she is singing and decorating with the angels now and that makes me happy.

i have some other scheduled posts that will pop up this week but i'm headed to california soon.
love to all of you; cherish your dear ones.

under the pink saturday sea

happy third birthday to pink saturday! i'm excited to join in the pink saturday fun for the first time today.  although pink is not the color i use most, i got inspired by other bloggers i love (see lynne at adorn and cindy) to give it a try.

the background here is antiqued glimmers from technique junkies.  i'd made a bunch of these backgrounds recently (as you can see from a few entries back) and had some left.  the rest is pretty simple.  i used some k & company stash, some lace for the sea floor, and a little crystal sticker to make this scene.

i wish you all a lovely weekend.  love to all.
