a card for my grandmother -- and maybe a BIB

hey world. last weekend i got on a roll making cards responsive to one of Gingersnap's latest challenges, "burgundy ivory & black" (let's call that BIB for short). as soon as i find the time to scan or photo the cards i'll post them because a couple of them turned out really pretty i think.

but this blog post is called "a card for my grandmother" so where am i going with that last paragraph? well, some of the elements of the cards i worked on last weekend i'd also used on a card i made for my grandmother last month. so unless there is some rule against submitting a card you made before the challenge was announced i'm including this one in the BIB bunch.

the story: my grandmother is just about the most lovely person ever and she's a true style diva. she never had any money but she always had style. she could design and sew like crazy (including making wild massive hats!). due to health and age she can't really sew any more but she still puts herself together like nobody you've ever seen. she was/is still a major thrift/vintage shop maven. in fact, being dragged along on all those thrift job jaunts as a child has had a major effect on my shopping habits!

she raised 4 kids on her own. long after her kids were grown and were parents themselves she was blessed with the opportunity to travel to europe, leaving the united states for the first time ever. in all the photos from her trip she was just so perfectly together! never any jeans or super casual wear she always looked fresh as a daisy and ready for any posh setting.

when i got this image from twisted papers it made me think of her. here is a lady with lots of style traveling about and having a sweet time. so i made this card for my Dear (as we call her) for mother's day. i liked it a lot so i scanned it; glad i did. now you get to see it too.
